The material represents an exchange between Holmes and J. W. Hayes, of Crags, Essex, England, over the latters inquiry concerning certain clay tools, in Hayes' description spoken as being mushroom-shaped. A photograph shows the items as being somewhat spool-shaped. They are referred to as being "pressers" for ceramic work.
