A pictorial map. Tsukigase (local variant is Tsukise) is a famous scenic region in Nara Prefecture. The map includes coded identifications for celebrated scenic and historical points of interest and excerpts from those literary works containing poetic references to the region. Also included are heights of the mountains, distances between the most visited places, and other information for visitors.

Custodial History
Custodial History
Originally collected in Japan during the 1930s. Donated to the Department of Anthropology by Mrs. Lispenard S. Crocker in 1961. Transferred to the National Anthropological Archives in September 1988 by Chang-su Houchins. The map was a part of the Around the World exhibition at the Historic Warner House, Portsmouth, New Hampshire, July, 31-August 5, 1939.
