Administration
Custodial History
The provenance is uncertain. The donor relates that a relative once spent time in Wyoming and Montana. Candace Greene postulated a Blackfoot origin of the basis of the dress of the figures and the drawing of a moose included among the animals. John C. Ewers examined the drawings and agrees that they are probably by a Blackfoot.
The drawings were donated to the National Anthropological Archives by Leavenworth Holden of Easton, Maryland in March 1991. They were brought to the museum by Dr. Thomas Kavanagh, a friend of Mr. Holden and an employee of the Handbook of American Indians. Kavangh delivered them to Candace Greene together with a number of other objects. Only the drawings were retained. Greene's correspondence with Holden is filed in the Collection Management files of the Department of Anthropology.
