Jerome Feldman, who collected the photographs, is a professor of art history at Hawaii Pacific University, Hawaii Loa campus. He specializes in tribal Southeast Asia and the Pacific Islands and conducted field studies in remote islands of Indonesia and Polynesia. He also helped design several exhibitions about the area including the Volkenkundig Museum Nusantara's "Nias Tribal Treasures" and the Smithsonian-sponsored "Beyond the Java Sea."
