Photographs depicting artifacts collected in 1966 in the central and western Papua New Guinea Gulf, particularly the Era and Wapo River area, Urama Island, and Kerewo. They include images of ancestral boards, figures, bark belts, and plaited straw masks.

Biographical/Historical note
Dr. Thomas Schultze-Westrum collected extensively in the Papuan Gulf in the mid 1960s. He also published books and articles about the region, including "Neuguinea. Papua--Urwelt im Aufbruch" (1972).

Artifacts purchased from Dr. Thomas Schultze-Westrum in Munich, Germany, by Evelyn A. J. Hall and John A. Friede, who donated them to the Department of Anthropology in 1984 (accession 358974). Photographs transferred to the National Anthropology Archives in 1989.
