Photographs made by Nicholas K. Vereschagin documenting excavations of woolly mammoth sites, including Primorije Territory, Laptev Sea Shore, Taymyr Peninsula, Kolyma River Valley, and Bereliokh. The collection also includes views of an exhibition of woolly mammoths in St. Petersburg, possibly at the Institute of Zoology, Leningrad Academy of Sciences.

Nicholas K. Vereschagin was a Soviet paleontologist with the Institution of Zoology, Leningrad Aacademy of Sciences. He came to Washington, DC, in 1990 to attend a conference of the International Council for Archeozoology.
