Scope and Contents note
Photographs collected by Richard A. Pohrt, including an image of a Crow man in warrior regalia on horseback, identified by Pohrt as being Spotted Jack Rabbit on the basis of comparison with Rinehart negative #782 (in Photo Lot 59), and an Assiniboin or Gros Ventre camp with two men and tipis.
Biographical/Historical note
Biographical/Historical note
Richard A. Pohrt was a prolific collector of Native American artifacts with his mentor Milford G. Chandler. The two met in Flint, Michigan, where Pohrt worked in the personnel department at A. C. Sparkplug and Chandler was an automotive engineer and gunsmith. The pair collected more than 4,000 objects created by Eastern Woodlands, Prairies, and Plains peoples, which prompted an exhibit and a book, both entitled "Art of the American Indian Frontier: The Collecting of Chandler and Pohrt."
