Scope and Contents
This collection consists of material researched and organized by Doris Rich in preparation for her book, and is divided into the following five series. The first series consists of information about individuals associated with Earhart and the second series consists of material, organized by year, containing information on general national events and trends of each year, and how Earhart reacted to those events. The third series consists of a day/year diary compiled by Rich to show the whereabouts of Earhart, while the fourth series consists of correspondence between Rich and her contacts for the book. The last series consists of subject files on the following: photographs, libraries, theories on disappearance, planes, search, radio and war; and a bibliography on note cards of interviews/sources, books and magazines that Rich found helpful.

Doris L. Rich's book Amelia Earhart: A Biography was published by the Smithsonian Press in 1989. Rich downplays Earhart's disappearance, and instead focuses on Earhart's many contributions to the aviation field and her championing of women's rights.
