Biographical / Historical
During the 1980s, NASA-Ames designed and developed a virtual reality head set for possible use in flight simulators and trainers. The impetus for the original design was for a fighter pilot's helmet and was based on research done at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. The helmet was one of the first prototype Virtual Reality systems, provided visual and audio information corresponding to position of user's head and hands.
