Lockheed, started as Loughead Aircraft Manufacturing Company in 1916 by brothers Allan and Malcolm Lockheed (originally Loughead), achieved success with such aircraft models as the Vega; Electra; P-38 Lightning; and later the U-2 and SR-71 (Blackbird) as well as many other civilian, military, and transport aircraft. Lawrence D. McKinley started with Lockheed in 1939 as a final assembly installer and later worked on such projects as the P-38, logistics support with the Japanese Air Force, and the Lockheed L-2000 (SST Proposal).
