Scope and Contents
This collection consists of approximately 8500 color slides of aircraft taken by Philip Lathrap. The slides include both civilian and military aircraft shot at air shows, air bases, airports, and museums around the world, including the United States, Canada, England, China, and Russia. The slide mounts are individually labeled and the collection comes with a detailed card catalog.

Biographical / Historical

Biographical / Historical
Philip Lathrap (1923-2012) was born and raised in Berkeley, California. During World War II, he served in the Army Air Corps, stationed in New Caledonia. After the war, Lathrap returned to California where he spent his career was as an engineer for Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E); one of his positions with the company as chief engineer on a natural gas pipeline project. Lathrap had a lifelong interest in aviation and he traveled extensively. He was a docent at the Oakland Aviation Museum and a volunteer at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum.
