Harley A. Bisselberg (1918-1986) was born in Indiana and enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps in 1942, where he served as a mechanic. Sergeant Bisselberg's service was marked by innovation, as when he engineered a trap door in the belly fuel tank of a Republic P-47 Thunderbolt to enable the delivery of tool kits to downed pilots for repair of their aircraft. Bisselberg was awarded the Legion of Merit in 1944.
