The Pietenpol Air Camper is a two-seat, open cockpit, plans-built aircraft designed by Bernard H. Pietenpol and first flown in 1928. The Pietenpol Air Camper was designed to be built from simple materials, wood, and varnished fabric for the wings and powered by a converted automobile engine, and using as few tools as possible so that it was accessible for the average person to build and fly. Home builders wishing to construct the Pietenpol Air Camper also needed to fabricate some metal fittings and do some welding. The Pietenpol Air Camper was featured on the cover of
Modern Mechanics
magazine in 1932.
