It is dated March 17, 1970 and was drawn by Don Brown and Stan Partyka at Martin Marietta Corporation, Denver, Colorado. This drawing was obtained by Richard Snyder during his time at NASA's Mission Simulation Branch. The unit used contractor data to develop and maintain machines, and it is likely that Snyder obtained the drawing as part of this process.

Skylab was a crewed space station launched into Earth orbit by the United States in May 1973. It was made from the third stage of a Saturn V launch vehicle. A crew of three astronauts occupied Skylab during each of three missions. The longest mission, which ended in February 1974, lasted almost three months. The Skylab missions obtained vast amounts of scientific data, and they demonstrated to the American public that people could live and work productively in space for months at a time.
Richard Snyder worked for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) at the Manned Spacecraft Center (later named the Johnson Space Center) in Houston, Texas from the early 1960s until 1981, when he left for a position at NASA headquarters as Chief of the Mission Simulation Branch. In this role, he was responsible for maintaining and operating flight simulators.
