This collection consists of a handwritten letter, dated June 30, 1936 and on Hotel Graf Zeppelin stationery, from Gardner Hinckley Prescott to his mother, Evelyn Munroe Prescott, recounting his trip on the Zeppelin LZ 129
Hindenburg
departing on June 23, 1936 from New Jersey for German. In the letter, Gardner Hinckley Prescott provides a detailed description of the interior space and accommodations onboard the airship as well as a list of the other passengers on board, which included the German boxer Max Schmeling. The collection also includes a typed transcript of the letter created by the donor.

The Zeppelin LZ 129
Hindenburg
belonged to the longest class of flying machines and the largest airships by envelope volume. It was able to carry 50 passengers plus crew members and made many transatlantic flights which took two to three days. The Zeppelin LZ 129
Hindenburg
flew from March 1936 until May 6, 1937 when a fire at Lakehurst Naval Air Station in Manchester Township, New Jersey, destroyed the airship and killed 36 people. Gardner Hinckley Prescott traveled on the Zeppelin LZ 129
Hindenburg
from New Jersey to Germany in June 1936.
