The Curtiss Eagle I was a three-engined airliner introduced in 1919 which featured many innovations such as a well-designed and convenience-filled cabin, pilots that were seated within the cabin, and an undercarriage featuring two sets of tandem wheels that incorporated a streamlined metal fairing covering most of each wheel. Beginning in autumn 1920, sightseeing flights in the Curtiss Eagle I were offered in Washington, DC. The flights, which departed from Bolling Field, carried prominent government and elected officials and their families as well as visiting foreign dignitaries.
