Aircraft silhouettes are one training tool used to familiarize both civilians and military personnel with various aircraft types so that they can recognize whether aircraft overhead are ally or enemy models. This collection consists of three 10 by 14 inch sheets of hand drawn and inked aircraft recognition silhouettes.

This collection consists of three 10 by 14 inch sheets of hand drawn and inked aircraft recognition silhouettes. Many of the silhouettes are for types of aircraft with examples of manufacturers listed beside them including Arrow type biplanes (AGO (Aerowerke Gustav Otto), Albatros, and Aviatik, a second silhouette for DFW, and a third for LFG Roland and earlier DFWs); tractor biplanes (Aviatik, a second silhouette for A.E.G. (Allgemeinen Electrizitäts Gesellschaft), and a third silhouette for LVG); Taube type monoplanes (Etrich, Albatros, DFW, LFG Roland, Kondor, Jeannin, Gotha, Rumpler, and Hansa, and a second silhouette for later Rumplers and Jatho); and Arrow Taube type (Harlan). There are additional silhouettes for manufacturer specific (although not model specific) monoplanes including R.E.P.; Blériot Aéronautique; Nieuport; Morane-Saulnier; and Deperdussin; and biplanes including Avro; Royal Aircraft Factory; Bristol; Sopwith; Grahame-White; Vickers; Short; Breguet; Caudron; and Farman (Brothers) (two separate silhouettes).
