The piece includes text at the top edge about a proposed air mail stamp in honor of Smith and more text at the bottom edge that provides biographical information on Smith. The body of the piece is made of a drawing of the Piper Apache

at the top left and a drawing of the globe with her route marked at the top right. In the center is a drawn head and shoulders portrait of Smith. At the bottom right corner of the piece is attached a small piece of metal from the City of Long Beach

City of Long Beach
(A/C No. N3251P), successfully completed the 27,750 mile flight in 56 days, arriving back in Oakland on May 12, 1964. Smith was posthumously awarded the Harmon Trophy in 1965 (she died at age 28 in February 1965 from injuries sustained in a plane crash).Administration
