Cady graduated from Brown University (B.Ph., 1895) and the University of Berlin (Ph.D. Physics, 1900). From 1902-1946 he was a professor of physics at Brown. After retirement he did consulting work for industry and the federal government. Cady's principal interests included electrical discharges in gases, piezoelectricity, ultrasonics, piezoelectric resonators and oscillators, and crystal devices.
