Scope and Contents
Scope and Contents
This subject category- Forges contains materials related to the manufacture and sale of forges. With one exception, the materials are from companies that manufactured various forges and other materials as well as agents of those manufacturers. Materials are primarily from the late 19th and early 20th centuries and from companies in the Northeastern United States. Researchers looking for materials on the sale of forges will find this material useful. Of particular interest might be the booklet on the Wyman-Gordon Company from 1945.
Companies include those that manufactured forges or agents representing those manufacturers. Items include business cards, receipts, ad circulars, correspondence, catalogues, price lists, and booklets. Many of the materials are undated. The bulk of those that are dated are from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Most of the companies are located in the Northeastern U.S. with New York, Boston, and Philadelphia mentioned most often. There are also companies from New Hampshire, Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, and Illinois. A small booklet entitled "Quintin Matsys, The Blacksmith of Antwerp" has a written note with the date 1854 on the first page.

Arrangement
Arrangement

Administration
Immediate Source of Acquisition note
Forges is a portion of the Business Ephemera Series of the Warshaw Collection of Business Americana, Accession AC0060 purchased from Isadore Warshaw in 1967. Warshaw continued to accumulate similar material until his death, which was donated in 1971 by his widow, Augusta. For a period after acquisition, related materials from other sources (of mixed provenance) were added to the collection so there may be content produced or published after Warshaw's death in 1969. This practice has since ceased.
