Ownership and Custodial History
A large collection of photographs was found in a house in Arundel, Maine, that was being moved to another location. The owner decided to take the photographs to the dump, but instead stopped at The Brick Store Museum, Kennebunk, Maine, on the way, and donated them. That museum retained some local scenes, but sent the major portion of the collection, views of the Hudson River and steamboats, and West Point, to the New York State Libary, Albany, N.Y., then forwarded the remainder to the Smithsonian Institution Archives, which in turn offered them to the Archives Center.
