Scope and Contents
The clippings (apparently collected by the Romeike service) cover a wide range of subjects and are taken from British and United States newspapers. The clippings include straight news stories; 1856 elections in California, sports stories on rowing and baseball, a report on the number of foreign warships in Chinese waters. There are also "feature" stories such as tourism by Americans in England (1874), iron and steel use in gun barrels, a description of a contempory comet (date unstated) and a general discussion of the nature of comets. Sermons, poems and long letters (California Correspondence") published in 1856 are also included.
