Correspondence, photographs, audio tapes and other documents relating to James H. Nicholson's career in radio, both as a long-time amateur operator and in his career in the U.S. Navy in both world wars and civilian government employment before and after World War II; Nicholson's autobiography; reminiscences by his daughter; and publications of amateur radio organizations (particular the "Old Old Timers Club") in which he was active.

Radio operator during his service in the Navy, an operator on merchant ships after World War I, and a "ham" radio operator on shore. He set up a radio shop which included the first licensed radio station in Maine, WTAJ. During World War II he was in charge of Naval aviation radio and after the war he worked for the Civil Aeronautics Administration.

The collection was donated to the Division of Electricity by Patricia Kilkenny, daughter of J.H. Nicholson, on 12/30/1994.
Custodial History
Collection transferred to the Archives Center from the Division of Electricity (now Division of Work and Industry), 6/21/96.
