In 1809, Seth Thomas joined with Eli Terry and Silas Hoadley in a partnership in the manufacture of clocks in Plymouth Hollow, Connecticut. After one year, Thomas and Hoadley bought out Terry's interest in the business. in 1812, Thomas sold his interest to Hoadley and opened his own shop in Plymouth Hollow. It was successful. The Seth Thomas company was incorporated in 1855.
