Dean F. Petersen (1913-1989) graduated from Utah State with a bachelors degree in Civil Engineering. He earned his masters and doctorate in engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Petersen taught engineering at Utah State, 1946 to 1949 and at Colorado State University, 1949-1957. He served as Dean of the College of Engineering at Utah State, 1957-1973. Petersen specialized in hydraulics and water resource management and published widely on these subjects.

Donated by Dean F. Peterson in 1977 to the Museum's Division of Mechanical and Civil Engineering (now the Division of Engineering and Industry).
