Biographical / Historical

Biographical / Historical
The album is inscribed, "To Henry Davis from Frank Klepetko." Klepetko was a metallurgical engineer who was an authority in copper smelting and refining. Born in Czechoslovakia in 1856, he emigrated to Cleveland, Ohoi in 1867, and obtained his degree of Engineer of Mines at Columbia University in 1880. Though it is unclear whether Klepetko was the photographer of the images in the album, the album was given to Henry C. Davis in 1880. Davis had been made president of a new Conglomerate Mining Company, originally formed on the Upper Peninsula of Michigan in 1863.
