The collection documents the life and career of Arias, who was chosen by the U.S. State Department to write a Spanish translation to "The Star Spangled Banner," during the years of the Good Neighbor Policy. In addition to her translation of the National Anthem, entitled "El Pendon Estrellada", the collection includes music manuscripts, lyrics, composition notebooks, sheet music and compilations, parts for instruments, correspondence with the State Department, papers relating to her work in advertising including ad jingles for various products, contracts and other business papers, personal papers including photographs and her immigration and naturalization documents, printed materials, and a disassembled scrapbook of clippings and printed materials. Also included are compact discs containing images from items in the collection.
