Content Description
Content Description
The collection documents Green's life and work, especially his nearly fifty years as rhythm guitarist with Count Basie's orchestra. Included in the papers are compositions, some published, some not, some merely ideas for songs, some sent to Green by others with hopes of their becoming included in the Basie play book. Some compositions are recorded in numerous music composition books. Also included in the collection are photographs, of Green, of his family and friends, and especially of Count Basie and the band on tour and in performance. Audiovisual materials include reel to reel recordings and one audio cassette. Additional materials include a scrapbook of clippings, mostly relating to Basie and his orchestra; letters, mostly of a business nature, 1980s; loose articles and clippings from the 1970s and 1980s; concert programs, including one posthumous one from 2006; awards; and miscellaneous contracts and business records.
