This collection contains 6 gelatin silver prints depicting petroglyphs in CaƱon Hombre Pintado, Buchivacoa Municipality in Venezuela, circa 1920-1924. The photographs depict three unidentified men posing with the petroglyphs. William Warfield, Director for Standard Oil Corporation of New Jersey in Argentina, may have shot the photographs during a research expedition or he may be depicted in the photographs.

Biographical / Historical
Diplomat and Oil Executive William Warfield was born in Easton, Pennsylvania on December 4, 1891. He studied Geology at Princeton and went on to conduct scientific research and serve as a consulting mining geologist in British Guiana and Trinidad; Mesopotamia and Arabia; and India from 1912 to 1913. Warfield went on to work in the foreign producing department of Standard Oil Company of New Jersey and later became the Director of the Standard Oil Company of New Jersey in Argentina, Venezuela, and Bolivia from circa 1920 to 1926. He also served as President Trinidad Oil Fields, Inc. from 1926 to 1927 and as the Director Standard Aircraft Products from 1940 to 1941.
William Warfield died on March 16, 1947.
