This accession consists of the exhibition records of Robert M. Vogel during his tenure as Assistant Curator, 1958-1961, Associate Curator, 1962-1966, and Curator, 1967-1985, of the Division of Mechanical and Civil Engineering; and as Curator of the Division of Engineering and Industry, 1986- . The accession also includes some records that date to the Division of Engineering, prior to 1957, and the correspondence and exhibition files of Carl Weaver Mitman, Curator of the Divisions of Mineral and Mechanical Technology at the United States National Museum. The records document early and ongoing planning for the Hall of Civil Engineering and the Hall of Heavy Machinery at the National Museum of American History, and the installation of the Power Hall at the Arts & Industries Building.
Materials include correspondence, memoranda, and notes; scripts; agreements; floor plans; exhibition proposals and planning information; design concepts; blueprints of mechanical instruments; photographs; drawings; object lists; and articles.
