This accession consists of records which document the research, development, fundraising, publicity, production, and execution of exhibitions at the Smithsonian American Art Museum (SAAM). Supplementary areas of exhibitions also covered include related symposiums, lectures, and gallery talks.
Among those exhibitions covered are The Bard Brothers: Painting America Under Steam and Sail; Irving Penn Master Images; Between Home and Heaven: Contemporary American Landscape Photography; American Photographs: The First Century from the Isaacs Collection in the National Museum of American Art; Motion and Document-Sequence and Time: Eadweard Muybridge and Contemporary American Photography; Chicano Art: Resistance and Affirmation, 1965-1985; Cuba-USA: The First Generation; Perkins Harnly: From the Index of American Design; Jesse Trevino: New York, Vietnam, San Antonio; Winslow Homer in the 1890s: Prout's Neck Observed; Photography of Invention: American Pictures of the 1980s; Posters American Style; Perpetual Motif: The Art of Man Ray; and Panoramas: The North American Landscape in Art. Additionally covered but never completed was the planned exhibition on Kenyon Cox by curator, Richard Murray. Curators represented include Andrew L. Connors, Merry A.
