This accession consists of records documenting Devra Kleiman's giant panda research. Kleiman was a research scientist as well as Acting Assistant Director for Animal Programs, 1983-1984, Assistant Director for Zoological Research, 1984, and Assistant Director for Zoological Research, 1985-1996. Records in this accession relate to her behavioral studies of giant pandas, the mating of Hsing-Hsing and Ling-Ling, the National Zoological Park's original two giant pandas, and the subsequent pregnancies and cubs of Ling-Ling. Materials include data summaries, checksheets, graphs, correspondence, memoranda, chronologies, black and white photographs, narratives, observation instructions, notes, and related materials.
