This accession consists of records documenting the Director's involvement in many aspects of exhibition development at the National Portrait Gallery during the tenure of Alan Maxwell Fern (1982-2000). Marshall: Soldier of Peace; Edith Wharton's World: Portraits of People and Places; Le Tumulte Noir: Paul Colin's Jazz Age Portfolio; and Breaking Racial Barriers: African Americans in the Harmon Foundation Collection. Materials include loan requests, correspondence, memoranda, agreements, and newspaper clippings.
