Descriptive Entry
This accession consists of twelve websites maintained by the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory (SAO). SAO, with the Harvard College Observatory, jointly administers the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics (CfA).
The SAO Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) Summer Intern Program website was crawled on December 11, 2012. The program allows undergraduates to work on astrophysical research with SAO or Harvard College Observatory scientists. The website includes information about the program and application requirements as well as projects completed by previous interns.
The software website for the CfA High Energy Astrophysics Division was crawled on December 11, 2012. It includes basic information about available software. Software downloads are not included in this accession.
The "Project Tanagra: Time Analysis of Grating Data" website was crawled on December 11, 2012. It consists of a report on the project.
The "Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics Virtual Observatory" website was crawled on January 7, 2013. The Virtual Observatory is the generic name for the effort led by the world's major astronomical data centers to provide a seamless common interface to all public data. The website discusses CfA's involvement in the project.
The Chandra Multiwavelength Project (ChaMP) website was crawled on January 29, 2013. ChaMP seeks to understand the nature and evolution of quasars, galaxies, and clusters of galaxies in a large, carefully constructed multi-wavelength survey. The website includes information about the project and methodologies as well as publications.
The Chandra Multiwavelength Plane Survey (ChaMPlane) website was crawled on January 30, 2013. The project measures x-ray binary and stellar content of the galaxy. The website includes documentation of the project.
The PROS/X-ray Data Analysis System website was crawled on January 30, 2013. PROS is a multi-mission analysis software for x-ray telescope data. The website provides documentation of the software. This accession does not include the software download.
The International CHASC Astro-Statistics Collaboration website was crawled on October 29, 2012. The website is a listing of resources of specific interest to astronomers regarding statistics.
The "simx: Potential Photons from Possible Satellites" website was crawled on January 30, 2013. The simx software simulates a photon-counting detector's response to an input source, including a simplified model of any telescope. The website includes documentation of the software.
The "Chandra Supernova Remnant Catalog" website was crawled on February 1, 2013. The catalog displays x-ray morphology and spectra of galactic and Magellanic Cloud supernova remnants and some pulsars with associated diffuse emission. The website includes documentation of the catalog. This accession does not include data.
The "ChASeM33: The Chandra ACIS Survey of M33" website was crawled on February 5, 2013. ChASeM33 is a very deep x-ray survey of the nearest face-on spiral galaxy, M33, using the spatial resolution of the Chandra X-ray Observatory. The website includes information about the survey and presentations. This accession does not include data.
The "XJET: X-ray Emission from Extragalactic Radio Jets" website was crawled on February 6, 2013. The website serves as a clearing house for radio galaxies and quasars for which x-ray emission has been detected and is associated with radio jets.
Materials are in electronic format.
