Descriptive Entry

Descriptive Entry
This accession consists of two websites maintained by the Smithsonian Institution.
The "Smithsonian Commons Prototype," crawled May 17, 2013, demonstrates a new planned digital presence dedicated to stimulating learning, creation, and innovation through open access to Smithsonian Institution research, collections, and communities. The prototype, which primarily consists of four video stories exploring the impact and benefits of a Smithsonian Commons, was first developed in July 2009, but never came to fruition. The website was taken down shortly after it was crawled.
The "SI Web and New Media Strategy" wiki was crawled in several pieces between May 20 and 24, 2013. The wiki was publicly available and anyone who joined could edit, discuss, create new pages, and add comments. It primarily focused on the Smithsonian Institution Web and New Media Strategy document published on July 29, 2009. The wiki will likely be taken down in the near future.
Materials are in electronic format.
