Descriptive Entry
Descriptive Entry
This accession consists of three websites and four blogs maintained by the Asian Pacific American Center (APAC) as they existed on August 9, 2013.
The main APAC website highlights and promotes Asian Pacific American events, exhibitions, and collections around the Smithsonian Institution. It also provides links to resources at other institutions.
The "Congressional Gold Medal Experience" website was developed jointly with the National Veterans Network. It is an interactive social learning application and website that introduces the stories of Japanese American World War II veterans based on six character values - courage, respect, humility, perseverance, compassion, and citizenship. Visitors and users are encouraged to share their own stories in an effort to promote character based inter-generational storytelling.
The "Smithsonian Filipino American Heritage" website documents Smithsonian Institution events, exhibitions, and educational activities surrounding "A Century of Challenge and Change: The Filipino American Story," a nationwide commemoration of the centennial of Filipino migration to the United States. It also provides links to resources from other institutions.
"Indian American Story: Blog for the Smithsonian Indian American Heritage Project" chronicles the latest Indian American issues and happenings at the Smithsonian Indian American Heritage Project and at the APAC. The blog was opened in July 2009 and was originally titled "HomeSpun Blog - The Indian American Story."
The "BookDragon" blog reviews books which predominantly highlight the contributions of Asian and Pacific Islander Americans to the American experience and world cultures. The blog was opened in March 2009 but was also populated with older reviews from other sources which were back-dated.
The "Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Program News and Events" blog announces new initiatives, exhibitions, and events and provides updates on ongoing programs.
"The May Project" blog, available through its Tumblr account, celebrates Asian Pacific American perspectives from Smithsonian staff, volunteers, interns, and friends. It features images of the bloggers and short stories about their experiences. The blog was opened in May 2012.
Materials are in electronic format.
