This accession consists of materials documenting the professional activities of David H. DeVorkin, Curator in the Space History Division of the National Air and Space Museum, 1981- . DeVorkin specializes in the origins and development of modern astrophysics and the space sciences. Activities documented primarily include lectures, presentations, and other speaking engagements as well as the preparation of two books, "Race to the Stratosphere: Manned Scientific Ballooning in the Stratosphere," published in 1989, and "Science with a Vengeance: How the Military Created the US Space Sciences after World War II," published in 1992. Materials include correspondence, permissions, book reviews, clippings, notes, agreements, presentations, lecture texts, meeting materials, planning documents, and related materials. Some materials are in electronic format.
