Descriptive Entry
This accession consists of records documenting behavioral research performed by Department of Zoological Research staff and their associates relating to captive and wild animals. The majority of the records were created and maintained by Miles Roberts and primarily documents his research concerning tarsiers, chipmunks, shrews, kangaroo rats, red pandas, and other small mammals. Additional records were created by John Frederick Eisenberg, Gene Maliniak, Mike Davenport, David Kessler, and Lang Elliott. Materials include observation data, data analysis, notebooks, scientific papers, audiotapes, film, videotapes, photographic materials, procedures, correspondence, sketches, bibliographies, and related materials. Some materials were created by predecessor and other offices, including the Animal Department (through 1968), the Department of Living Vertebrates (1968-1971), the Scientific Research Department (through c. 1973), the Office of Animal Management (1972-1979), the Office of Zoological Research (c. 1973-1982), the Office of Animal Programs (1979-1984), and the Department of Zoological Research and Education (1984-1985).
