Descriptive Entry
Descriptive Entry
This accession consists primarily of records documenting toque macaque research performed by Research Associate Wolfgang P. J. Dittus. Dittus is also the Director of the Smithsonian Primate Biology Program in Polonnaruwa, Sri Lanka. Materials include field notes, research data, and analyses; grant proposals; manuscripts; correspondence; reports; manuals and procedures; observational film and audio footage; commercial film and video footage and final productions; images of animals, staff, volunteers, facilities, and scenery; and related materials. A very small amount of material documents other animals and/or was created by other researchers associated with the National Zoological Park, including John Frederick Eisenberg and G. Gene Montgomery. Some materials were created by predecessor offices, including the Scientific Research Department (through c. 1973), the Office of Zoological Research (c. 1973-1982), and the Department of Zoological Research and Education (c. 1984-1985).
