This accession consists of field notes of Donald F. MacDonald, geologist with the United States Geological Survey (USGS) and professor of geology. MacDonald was appointed by the Costa Rica-Panama Boundary Commission as geologist during the construction of the Panama Canal, 1911-1913. Some of these field notes were written in conjunction with USGS geologist Thomas Wayland Vaughan. Materials also include scientific illustrations and maps.
