Descriptive Entry
Descriptive Entry
This accession consists of two websites, three subsites, and a blog maintained by the National Portrait Gallery (NPG).
The primary NPG website was crawled on October 20, 2015, and January 22, 2016 and again on February 21, 2016, shortly after the website was redesigned. The website includes information on exhibitions, visiting, educational activities, and publications. The website also includes the online exhibition "Picturing Business in America: Hedcuts in the Wall Street Journal." The February crawl includes the "Face to Face" blog which had previously been a standalone blog. This accession does not include detailed collections information and some features of the website do not display or function as expected.
The "Face to Face" blog, crawled on February 22, 2016, is dedicated to art, history, and the telling of American lives. The blog launched in February 2008 and announced that it had moved to the NPG website on February 16, 2016.
The subsites for three online exhibitions, "Cover Art: The Time Collection at the National Portrait Gallery," "American Origins, 1600-1900," and "The Struggle for Justice," were crawled separately from the rest of the NPG website on January 27, 2016. In this accession, some features of the online exhibitions do not display or function as expected.
The Outwin Boochever Portrait Competition website was crawled on March 15, 2016. The competition, administered by the National Portrait Gallery, celebrates excellence and innovation with a strong focus on the variety of portrait media used by artists today. The website includes information about the 2016 competition and exhibition as well as winning portraits from previous competitions.
Materials are in electronic format.
