This accession consists of Hancock Pacific-Galapagos Expeditions papers documenting the research activities of Fred Charles Ziesenhenne, a zoologist from the University of Southern California who participated in the expeditions during the early 1930s. Ziesenhenne, along with other scientists that included biologist Waldo LaSalle Schmidt of the Smithsonian Institution, collected scientific data on marine and land life of the Galapagos Islands. The expeditions were sponsored by scientist and philanthropist Captain Allan Hancock, aboard his exploration cruiser Velero III. Materials include diaries, field and research notes, and newspaper clippings pertaining to the expeditions and the related news that followed.
