This accession consists of materials created by Richard Kurin during his tenure as Director for National Programs, 2004-2007; Acting Under Secretary for History and Culture, 2007-2008; Acting Under Secretary for History, Art, and Culture, 2008-2009; and Under Secretary for History, Art, and Culture, 2009-2016. Materials dated before April 14, 2008, were created by the Office of the Under Secretary for History and Culture and the Office of the Under Secretary for Art and prior to 2003, the International Art Museums Division. Earlier records were inherited by Kurin and created by his predecessors in similar positions within the Smithsonian. Topics documented include administration and managerial oversight, budget, proposals, facilities planning, and Smithsonian's Haiti Cultural Recovery Project. Materials include correspondence and memoranda; administrative and budget files; notes; agreements and memoranda of understanding; meeting minutes and agendas; and related materials. Some materials are in electronic format.
