This accession consists of records documenting responses to issues and crises in the news media related to the National Zoological Park (NZP). The bulk of these records document a particularly active period of high-profile animal deaths and investigations by several regulatory bodies and news agencies during the tenure of Lucy H. Spelman, Director, 2000-2004. A significant amount of material also documents NZP's contractual obligations to media companies. Materials include correspondence, internal communications, proposals, training materials, draft documents, and related materials.
