Descriptive Entry
This accession consists of records created and maintained by Harold A. Closter, Director, 2004-2017. Smithsonian Affiliations was created in 1999 as a national outreach initiative of the Smithsonian. It establishes long-term collaborative relationships with communities across the country. These partnerships allow the Institution to share is collections, programming, and expertise more widely with local museums and educational organizations.
The records document Closter's work with the various Smithsonian Affiliates located across the United States, as well as his work on Affiliations programs and educational resources. Some materials date to when the J. Michael Carrigan was director, 1999-2002. Materials include correspondence, memoranda, proposals, speeches, recommendations, reports, agreements, invitations, and clippings.
