Descriptive Entry
Descriptive Entry
This accession consists of two websites maintained by the Walter Reed Biosystematics Unit (WRBU). The WRBU performs collections management activities for the National Museum of Natural History (NMNH), Department of Entomology mosquito collection, comprising over 1.5 million specimens. The WRBU also provides assistance to staff and researchers in locating and examining specimens. In addition, the WRBU maintains a molecular entomology laboratory within the Smithsonian Institution, Museum Support Center.
The "VectorMap" website was crawled on November 6, 2019. The website provides mapped collection data and distribution models for arthropod disease vector species as well as the hosts of vector-borne disease pathogens. Collection records are searchable and downloadable and users can map and contribute their own georeferenced collection data or distribution models. Due to technical issues, data in this accession may be incomplete and some features do not function as expected.
The primary WRBU website was crawled on February 21, 2020, in the midst of a redesign. At the time of capture, the publicly available website consisted of a single page with a "coming soon" notice and links to resources on other websites.
Materials are in electronic format.
