Descriptive Entry
These records consist of the papers of F. Raymond Fosberg (1908-1993), and consist primarily of correspondence and project files, circa 1946-1984. Most of the files document Fosberg's professional career as a botanist and biogeographer. Most of the papers date from his arrival at the Smithsonian in 1966 as Special Assistant for Tropical Biology, National Museum of Natural History. In 1970 that office was abolished and Fosberg became a Curator in the Department of Botany, a post he held until he was named Senior Botanist in 1977. In 1978 he retired and was named a Research Associate. Earlier files document his career at the United States Geological Survey. Throughout his career, Fosberg worked closely with Marie-Hélène Sachet (1922-1986), and her papers are intermingled with his.
