This accession consists of records that document the administrative activities of the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Research. The office title changed on March 25, 1992 and is presently known as the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Science. Records include correspondence and memoranda pertaining to administration of offices and bureaus throughout the Institution primarily focusing on budget appropriations, personnel matters, or the overall maintenance of museum facilities; congressional issues; exhibitions and collections management; construction contracts; fellowships; accounting services; workshops; affirmative action reports; and Smithsonian Institution Libraries (SIL) library search. Additional correspondence refers to the American Association of Museums (AAM), Carrying Capacity Conference, Buried Mirror Project, International Environmental Sciences Program (IESP), Smithsonian Board of Regents meetings, Sloan Videohistory Project, Chesapeake Research Consortium, 1990 World Food Prize, and the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute.
