This accession consists of records that document the curatorial activities of Carl H. Scheele during his tenure with the Division of Community Life, National Museum of American History (NMAH), and to a lesser extent his tenure with the Division of Postal History (NMAH). Scheele was Assistant Curator for the Division of Philately and Postal History, Museum of History and Technology (MHT), from September 21, 1959 through to 1963; Associate Curator in Charge, 1964-1970; and Curator for the Division of Postal History, National Museum of History and Technology (NMHT), 1971-1977. He became Curator of the Division of Community Life in 1978, retired from the Division on November 3, 1987, and served as Curator Emeritus from 1988 to 1989.
Materials include correspondence between Scheele and historical societies, universities, museums, and staff of the Division of Postal History that includes Franklin R. Bruns; portrait photographs of Scheele taken during the 1960s, with some dating from the 1970s; information pertaining to the Festival of American Folklife; project information for the exhibition Nation of Nations; and memoranda from administrative offices.
