This accession consists of the administrative, correspondence, and subject files of James R. Buckler, who was hired in July 1972 to oversee the Smithsonian Institution's horticultural program. The records document the development of the program into the Office of Horticulture, of which Buckler became director. The records were not consistently kept, and there are many gaps.
